New Knife Hangs Around for Safety

Plante Fisherman's Knife
Plante Buoy Sticks, based in Maine, produces buoy sticks, lobster and crab trap equipment, accessories and breakaway gear for the fishing industry across the US and Canada. The company's latest offering is a razor-sharp, stainless steel serrated knife, with a cushioned rubber handle, that fits into a specially designed sheath.

Made in Switzerland, the knife is designed for cutting rope of all types, including polypropylene, which is very slippery and difficult to cut with an ordinary knife.

The sheath allows a fisherman to hang the knife on his belt or upside down on his foul weather gear suspenders.

The unique design allows the user to grab the knife, when mounted by the shoulder, and draw it downward away from his face and neck. This can be done with one hand, which is very useful when tangled in line.

I have tested the knife on a variety of materials, and can attest to its capabilities. The serrated blade makes quick work of reinforced rubber fuel line, garden hose, schedule 40 pvc pipe, and even 1/4-inch plywood. The sheath comes in several different colors, including glow in the dark, and snaps securely to most belts or straps.

The knife, with its cushioned rubber safety orange handle, stays securely in the sheath in any position, but is easy to remove in an emergency.

Manufacturer's suggested retail price for the knife and sheath is $22.95, and a list of retail ship supply locations (here) that carry Plante products can be found at www.plantebuoysticks.com.
